Ensuring the Safety and Quality of Catering in the Oil and Gas Industry

A major global oil and gas organisation wanted to ensure their chosen external catering contractor was capable of managing all aspects of providing safe and quality food to their workers in their on-shore operations. NSF International recommended a review of their contractor’s food safety management from source to delivery, which included an investigation of their supply chain management, a review of their policies, procedures and documentation. NSF also conducted quarterly consultative audits to identify issues, together with training where required and swabbing and sampling to demonstrate good practice.

NSF’s intervention identified serious safety and documentation deficiencies which NSF worked to correct via coaching audits, training and support. A crisis management service was also put in place in case of an outbreak or serious corrective action.

With the commitment of senior management, the company has seen significant improvements in the audit results and in their food safety culture and practices.
